Following the success of our previous trip to the ADCCs in Birmingham, several members of the ‘BlueWave Fight Team’ travelled to Brighton to compete in the first annual ‘Grab & Pull Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Tournament’ held on 19/07/08.

Silver medals were won by both Andrew Skiff and David Pirez. Dave won his first 3 fights by points but unfortnately lost the final (also by points score). Andrew submitted his first two opponents by arm lock and gi choke before losing the final on points. Phil Watkins and Ken Brett were victims of dubious decisions by the judges with constant innactivity by Phils opponent and Kens match not even hitting the ground.
Nathan ‘Levo’ Leverton, head coach at ‘Leicester Shootfighters’, was kind enough to invite BlueWave to attend his latest open mat event held on 06/07/08. Historicaly these sessions have drawn upto 150 fighters/participants, however on this occasion Levo chose to stick to a smaller format, instead just inviting a selection of friends and training partners.

The 4 hour marathon training session allowed a great chance for meet no-gi grapplers from a range of clubs and was very well recieved. Lengthy free-roll/discussion sessions sandwiched a small, yet highly interesting, workshop on Brabo chokes.
BlueWave would like to thank Nathan for an incredibly enjoyable and productive afternoon, leaving us asking….when’s the next one?!
Congratulations to Helena Knock who achieved her Karate Blackbelt after a successful grading in Colchester on Sunday 29th June.
